When revising multiplication last week, you were taught that multiplication is the same as repeated addition.
For example 3 x 5 is the same as 5 + 5 + 5 or 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 3.
Using ‘arrays’ this week will help you to revise the link between multiplication and division. An array is a visual representation of the multiplication process, usually using dots arranged into rows and columns. You can quickly learn that the number of rows multiplied by the number of columns equals the total number of dots.
You can also use arrays for division, by grouping the dots into rows or columns. Can you spot the link?
