For a number of weeks two ducks had been sighted around the grounds of the school, often in the two quadrangles and the grass area beside the canteen. A surprise was in store after a weekend's break (Monday 14.05.01) when Mrs Gorman, the caretaker, found a mother duck with several ducklings. Mrs. Beattie's husband came by lunchtime to collect the ducks to take them to a more suitable habitat at Castle Espie near Comber. These photos were necessarily taken quickly. The ducklings delighted the children at the infant end who haven't yet been allowed to play in the quadrangle playgound due to vital component missing - it was just as well for the breeding of the ducks as the mest was in the bushes within the quadrangle.
