Key Stage 2 provides children with opportunities to deepen their knowledge, strengthen key skills and become increasingly independent learners. Through a broad and balanced curriculum, pupils are encouraged to think critically, solve problems creatively and make meaningful connections across different areas of learning. 

The Northern Ireland Curriculum for Key Stage 2 focuses on six Areas of Learning:

• Language and Literacy – developing advanced reading, writing, speaking and listening skills across a range of contexts.
• Mathematics and Numeracy – extending mathematical understanding, reasoning and problem-solving abilities. 
• The World Around Us – exploring historical, geographical, scientific and technological concepts through enquiry and investigation. 
• The Arts – fostering creativity, imagination and self-expression through art, drama and music.
• Personal Development and Mutual Understanding (PDMU) – promoting wellbeing, resilience, healthy lifestyles and positive relationships. 
• Religious Education – developing an understanding of Christianity and other world faiths while encouraging respect, reflection and appreciation of diversity. 

Throughout Key Stage 2, pupils continue to develop the cross-curricular skills of Communication, Using Mathematics and Using ICT, alongside important thinking, problem-solving and decision-making skills that prepare them for the transition to post-primary education. 

Our Key Stage 2 curriculum encourages children to become confident, motivated and responsible learners who are equipped with the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed for success in school and beyond.
