First we got 1 piece of straw out of the six. Then we cut it into 6 peices in 6cm each.We took four pieces of straw from the six pieces we cut, then put masking tape over it and made a square. Then we put four bits of straw going down the way. Then made a square again and made a cube.

JANELLE ,CHARLENE.
1.First we got six long pieces of straw then we cut them accurately in to 8cm percisely;you need six of your art straws.
2. After that you get a long strong piece of masking tape then cut small pieces of the thick masking tape and cut it in half and you don't need to cut it accurately.
3. Then get three neat pieces of straw tape them accuratly together to make a triangle do this again then join it neatly to make a neat triangular prism (There You Have It.)

One day I was walking through the woods and I bumped into this huge tall thing. He thirteen foot tall. He had bright yellow hair. He had four antennae with huge eye balls put on top of his four antennae and if stuff was higher than him he would take off his bright red eye balls off the antennae and hold them up. He had a long spiky nose with multicolour all over him. His face is like a huge black balloon with green lips. He had no neck, a skiny stomach three arms, one finger on each hand and one toe on each foot. He had a purple ear for his belly button and one cheek and he does not breathe and nobody knows how he can stay alive with out breathing. He has got one leg and four feet one of the feet is size small three, big three, small one and big thirteen. He has one long eye at the back of his head. His bright yellow hair is down to his feet. He smokes three cigars in his mouth all together and he stinks.

Some indications that these things are not happening now is that the clothes they are wearing certainly aren't similar to the clothes were wearing now. Another difference is that if you look closely at the pram it is very different to the ones we see today. As well you notice that it is only the rich that are there .Also another noticeable thing would be that it was quite common to wear black especially on Sunday.

In Ireland long ago a devastating disease occured
Millions fled to America in hope of finding a new world
People called this the blight
There was not a healthy body in sight
It caused millions of deaths and lots of despair
Workhouse were crowded everywhere
To people this was a nightmare
Dead bodies were found everywhere.

In our picture people are being evicted. On the roof people are trying to smoke the family out of their home. The landlord or landagent is on a horse. People are begging the landlord to give them another chance. Soldiers are making sure people get out of their house without rioting. People are watching in shame as the family beg on their knees. In fields behind the cottage children are playing without knowing what is going on.Some people walk by as if nothing is happening around them. We feel people should not be treated like this.

On the 17th of February we went on a residential. That day we did a fire drill. That night we went to Bangor Castle Lesuire Centre for a swim, we also had a birthday party for Jill and watched Casper Meets Wendy. After Casper we went to bed. In dorm 4 we were telling ghost story's, Sarah told this really gruesome story. It was all about a sycopath girl. The next morning we had breakfast, I had Rice Krispies. After breakfast we went on a scavanger hunt. David Dawson, Kerri Dawson, Charmain Winsor and Aaron Moffat were in my group. When we came back there was a band called Jig Time. One person played the violin another played the uillean pipes another played the jaw's harp. The man who played the jaw's harp said if you aren't careful you could have your tongue. After Jig Time we had lunch.
That night we went to a Barn Dance, taught by Mr. Patterson. Leah McDowell was my partner, we did I Ga Do, The Birdie Song,The Macerena and The Hokey Cokey. Near the end we had to make up our own dance to Cotton Eye Joe. Later on that night we watched Richie Rich. When we went to bed that night instead of telling ghost stories we told funny stories about a little boy being chased by a tiger! The next day we went farming. We got to feed the sheep, ride a donkey and see the new born calves. After farming we went on a woodland trail. After that we went to the shop, when we got back from the shop we had lunch. After our lunch we made a patchwork quilt. Then we went home.

On Wednesday 17th February the class and I went to the Ulster Folk And Transport Museum in Bangor. It took us about twenty minuts to get there. We where early getting there,so we went for a walk outside. The lady who was in charge is called Madeline. She told us all the rules and regulations, and anwered all our questions(you could also call her "She Who Must Be Obeyed"). First we where shown our dorms and told there would be a fire drill in a few minuts. We where showen where the fire door was, how to get out of the building and where to line up.We had to be quiet, but everyone went mad! When we got back in we went to our dorms and unpacked. My dorm had 4 bunk-beds,a locker and a wardrobe.Nearly every day we went for long walks. It was sore on our on our legs but we lived through it to tell the tale.On Thursday we went to a Barn Dance and learned how to line dance.Your partner could be a girl or a boy. My partner was Jade Mc Cleary. While we where dancing Mr.Livingston was taking photographs of us.He took photographs of us in the Common Room to.We where embaressed and we hid behind our friends. Also the man who told us what to do in the Barn Dance was called Mr.Patterson. We went for a Scavenger Hunt to find different objects. It was Jill Thomson's birthday and she had brought a catapillar cake with her.So after the boys had watched Match Of The Day we had a party and watched Casper Meets Wendy. Most people fell asleep that night and the night we watched Richine Rich,so in the middle of the film it was stopped and Mr.Livingston woke them up and they where put to bed.Sometimes to keep ourselves occupied when we where waiting for something we played Apple,Apple,Apple.Every one was called a fruit and some one was in the middle. It was great funand we played it for about fifteen minits at a time. When we went for walks we where put into groups with teacher in each group. The teacher in charge of the group I was in was called Mr.Grant.On Wednesday we went to Bangor Lesure Centre. There was a children's swimming pool for under eight's which was about a quarter of a meter deep. A pool for learners which was about half a meter deep. There was also a family pool which was deep and shallow, and a pool to dive into from two diving boards. The learers pool was really warm and the family pool was really cold.So for fun my friends and I went into the warm pool got out quickly and jumped into the cool pool and it gave us quite a shock! We were not allowed to dive from the diving board but I don't know why.To get there we had to take the train so we had to take the train home, but some people got a giant gobstopper so they had to take it out of there mouth's until they got home.
Once when we went for a walk we went to a cottage to make candles.A very kind lady helped us make them. The colour of the wax was light blueand I thouht it was a very nice colour. What you had to do was...There was a pot of hot wax on a chair and you had to go round the table every time dipping your piece of wick into the wax and letting it dry, dipping it in letting it dry and so on.It gets thicker every timeand eventuly you have a thick candle ready for burning. The lady asked if you would like your candle twisted, nail patterned or left classical(which means left the way it was.)
One day we where all called to the Common Room after our walk for a special occasion. This group called "Jig Time"had come to entertain us.A woman had a fiddle, one man had a boran, another man had villean pipes and another man told stories and had a little instrument called the jaw's harp which made a twanging noise. They entertained us for an hour and then they whent home.
On all of our walks we went to urban and rural house's.One of the old buildings was The Northern Bank.It had 9 rooms in it and was very old.In most old houses there where lovely patchwork quilt's on the beds and they must have been very warm on cold nights. We went there for three days and got there and came back on a bus.I was kind of glad to be home because I missed my warm comfy bed and my mum and dad but I would like to go back again.

All are diying everywhere,
Many have emigrated to a country with food,
In the soup kitchens so full, children have died,
Nothing to eat no where to stay,
Everywhere needs shelter,Theres no way out.

What I see is a little school in North Thomas street .The children in it look like the age of 5 to 11years of age.Out side the building are a few children who look like their not wearing a school uniform. The clothes their wearing is a pinifore over a dress for girls and a cap, shirt and trousers for the boys. The footpaths are made of cobble stones which look sore on the childrens feet because they are not wearing any shoes .The buliding has two entrances and five windows which look very dirty.

The alien had thick spotty skin and was like slime. His only eye is purplish pink and had many eyelashes. He breaths through gills at the side of his slimly neck. His hair is like meatle spikes. Hes got 33 fingers and 100 toes. And his nose is 200 meters. Hes fat horrible ears which are like dogs tails. His neck is tall and thin. Its long grey tonge is hairy with lumps.

Fever came and killed people
After a year about a million people died
Millions of people emigated to America
Ireland was strock in 1845
No body was ever fat
Everyone had little food.
Dying was very hard for loved ones
Every one was poor
Some people looked like a walking skeleton
People were very ill with fever
After about 8 or 9 years the famine ended
Ireland was free again
Rescued from despair.

One Monday I saw an alien . It had one deep green eye and the other was bright red . It had blue arms and six fingers and eight toes . The alien had red smoke coming out of his head and a pole coming out of his head too . He was slimed from head to toe and when he walked slime dropped of him . He was saying " Kill kill " , so I threw a stone and the alien still walked . He was fat and not very pretty so he had a nose that was purple . The alien stared to fly in the sky and that was the end of the alien.

Usually people jump in the leaves.
The days are cold and sometime it rains .
Usually the days are long .
Mums tell children to wear warm clothes.
No one is wearing shorts and T . shirt

Many people were evicted from their homes.
In some places soup kitchens were opened.
No one had ever seen so much diseaes and hunger.
Ever one wan'ted to emigrate to the new world for a new start.

The people had to get water from a pump. They wore different clothes than us.The curtains were just old cloth that has been ripped. The ground was made of cobble stones.Half the door was missing. They had to get water in a tub and bring it in the house.

Under leaves animals scurry and hide.
Millions of people are wearing warm jumpers.

Rotting potatoes
Its devastating to see
Oh how skinny people are
The famine.
Help the famine has begun
Our potatoes are dying
People are too
Everybody crying.
Before the famine started
Everyone was happy
Only babies were crying
Then the famine came
And everyone was crying.

The Fortunata
Boston
January 17 1858
This is Peggy i'm just writing to see how everyone is. How is doing with the job? Hows Nano and you?Have you moved in with John yet? After I left you in Castletaggart we went to Queenstown to the shipping office I was very worried in case I was too young but Mrs Molly stood up for me and told the man I was with her so I got my ticket. Then we found out the ship didn't set sail until tommorrow so we booked into a hotel called Seaview. It was better than nothing. Then the very kind lady at the hotel told us we would be best going to the shop in the town to get a chamber pot and a bucket.
The next morning I looked out the hotel window and there it was The Fortunata. We all got up and got ready we had breakfast and went down to the quayside where we had to wait in the long, long queue . The children started to get restless. Then we got on the ship we had to go down to the steerage it was very squashed and people were fighting for bunks. There was a massive table in the middle of the floor. Later I met a girl called Sarah. She had 2 brothers called James and John Connolly. Then a very bad thing happened it was a storm the ship got flooded and we weren't allowed up a lot of people were sea -sick at this time aswell so that didn't help matters. When the storm had finished
The alien is gold with slimy slippery skin, all my friends say he lives in a bin. He has spikyhair and it is very shiny the colour of his hair is bright bright green which I like rather well. His eyes are bright red with other flaming colours rolling around in his eye sockets. He hasn't just got two eyes he has five on the back of his head and the front. He is a sneaky old alien because he has three fingers and toes.He thinks he is the best alien in space but a lot of them have three too. He eats alot of unhealthy food but is really really skinny and I do not know how he does it.He breathes out flames but is a really friendly alien.

My picture show s me that in olden days hospitals were not very nice places . In the picture it shows that hospitals were not very happy places .They were very bare and the beds were all close together and in the picture it shows only one doctor and one nurse . Now days we have a lot of doctors and nurses, and when we go in to hospital we have privacy and our hospitals are bright and cheery places. A lot of changes have happened over the years and problably will still change even more.

In Ireland long ago such a normal little day no one was prepared for this to come their way. Potatoes were all rotted and not a thing to eat ,except a bowl of grain was our only keep .
The sound of crying .Theres death in the air why it's Sam from next door . Poor little thing but he's better up there than being down here .
I have to sell some thing if I want my kids to eat I sold my ring and my shawl I dont care if I'm cold it's food after all. I'll pray each night and each day that this curse will go away.

Anon:
The famine killed over 2 million people.
It was around in 1845.
There were riots over food.
People were starving to death.
People were homless.
People had no family.
People were moving to Ammerica.
1000000 people went but only atleast half made it.
The ones that died were rapped in blanketsand thrown over board.
My monster would be described as tall ,fat and green.I would name him Gandoe .He would have one antenna, two mouths, seven noses, his arms would be made of metal and wood, he would have one foot and one arm , he would have sixteen at the front and none at the back. He could have two fingers, he would be like a news reporter, his toes would be deep blue, he would be one thousand feet tall, his eyes would be deep purple , his hair would be deep orang and gold and would go one way and the other, and his skin would be made of slime and when you touch it, it would peel. His mouth would be half brown and half grey. His noses woud be light pink. His face would be deep blue and his leg would be grey. His antenna would be deep green.

On Wednesday 17 of February we went on a trip to the Residential Centre the bus jorney took about twenty minites to get there when we arrived there we where early so we went for a walk it was a long walk. When got back St John's where there so Madeline showed us where are rooms where then we had to practice for a fire drill. After the fire drill we went for a long walk and looked at Victorian houses and all the houses were dull and dark and the beds were hard and uncomfortable. But some Victorian houses were exspensive. That tells us that the owners of the houses were rich. When we got back to the Residential we went to the common room for a while. After the Common Room we went to the Dinning hall for dinner. Then we got to go swimming for about an hour. When we came back we watched Casper Meets Wendy from about nine o'clock to about half past twelve. We had to go to bed and woke up about half past seven in the morning. And I got Rice Krispies for my breakfast .Then the teachers put us into groups for going on walks most of the walks were very long. When we got back from the walks we went to the Common Room and talked about what we found out about the Victorians. Then went for are lunch it was lovely and I enjoyed it .But I did not realy like the pudding. Then we went on a scavanger hunt it was a long long walk we went into this house it was smelly and dirty. We then came back and got are dinner. The dinner was lovely and the pudding was nice. After dinner we went farming and the farming was great. We got to feed the sheep. Then we got to go on a donkey,we took turns with he reins the donkey's name was Joey.Once we arrived at this this farm we stopped and looked at cows and we saw a calf but when we went near the calf the mummy swung its tail at us and we jumped out of the way.We got to go into the house next to the farm and it was big and beautiful inside their was a man inside the house. Then the man told us who lived in the house and how many people lived in the house. When we came out of the house and went back to the cows then the man with the donkey brought us back to the farm yard and told us about the barn dance at 8pm.
When we got back to the Residential Centre we went to the Common Room and watched television until the Barn dance was about to begin then we went to this big hall then we had to pick our partners for the dance then we had to do the Little Birdie,Cotton Eye Joe,Hookie Pookie,Music Man and the Macerena. The Barn dance was great.Once the Barn dance was over we went and watched the rest of Casper meets Wendy then we watched Richie Rich. Then we went to bed.In the morning we had to pack our stuff for going home later on that day.Once we had packed all of our stuff we went across the road for our breakfast we had a choice from Rice Krispies,Alpen or Corn Flakes. When everbody had eaten their breakfast we went to the Common Room to sort out what walks we were doing.Once we had sorted out what walks we were going to do,we went on the first walk wich was not very long.We only went into a few houses and all of them were small and dark inside them it was also cold inside. After we had looked at all of the houses we went back to our rooms and got are stuff and put them in this big hall wich was called the Orange Hall and it was massive. Then we watched some of Richi Rich. Then the bus came and we went back to school it took about twenty minites to get back to school. So I got in to the under eights pool and it was warm in the pool l saw Andrew Steed so l played with him. When we got back we had dinner then we had a party for Jill at the party we watched television and a tape the tape was called Casper Meats Wendy. The tape lasted a long time and we still didn't get to watch it all that night so we watched it the next day. That same day we went around the houses filling in sheets the teacher in my group was Mr. Lavelle. He helped us alot and he was frendly and kind. Then we went farming and the others went cooking and some went to make candles l went farming and we went on a horse half way around the place. It was slow but fun and l enjoyed it then we went back to the residential to get lunch the lunch was nice and the pudding was nice to. After that we went to our dorms then we went to the other Common Room and we played Apple, Apple,Apple and it was fun. After that we went to the other Common Room and played a guessing game then we went back to the other Common Room and watched Richy Rich then we went to bed. The next day we packed and got our breakfast and went home in the bus.

Alan :
Fatality across the land
No one was happy
Poor people evicted
Hopeless people crying
Death despair and devastation
Could this nightmare ever end
Years and years of starvation
They could'nt take it any more
In coffin ships they went to explore
Ireland was ruined
Death ruled the land
The Famine somehow ended
Im so glad of that
But families go on to this day
And remember that dreadful time

Its twelve eyes are so evil so dark its nose is half a foot long and smells of alcohol . He's nine foot tall is The Monster From Mars. He breatheps fire from his mouth ,ears and nose. His ears are hugeand pointy and his teeth are small and jagged with green stuff over them. His five arms are cut and ragged with seven fingers and twelve toes . There are dirty and slimey. He looked at me with a sharp eye and grunted. I turned and ran then I notied some hair on the ground and turned and found out he was hairy. But the hair was covered in green slime. So I ran away from The Monster From Mars.

All the leaves are falling
Usually it is cold in Autumn
The wind is very strong
Until the next warm day Autumn will be here
Most of the people stay at home
Nobody goes to the beach these days

The Famine happened in Ireland in 1850 . The potatoes failed to grow. After a few months a disease broke out it killed many people. If you didn't get killed you would be evicted from you're homes and sent to the workhouse . Outside soupkitchens people rioted . Ships were called Coffins because poeple usally died on them.

Umbrellas in the air .
Mucky roads, mucky footpaths ,mucky gardens.

All the leaves are falling from the trees
Use warm clothes
Trees are shaking with the wind
Umbrellas are being used
Money used to by warm clothes
No children in shorts and T shirt

My Alien would have gold teeth and he would have hair like a bright orange sun. He would have one bright red eye in the middle. He would have green slimey arms andthe slime will drip of him like water. He would breathe out fire and eat humans, but not me. And he would be six foot tall.

All trees start going bare
Underneath leaves conkers are hiding
Up in the trees birds make nests
Months start getting longer
Never warm, always cold and damp.
